Formation and Structure of Polyacrylamide Gels
Acrylamide and N,N-methylenebis(acry1amide) (AAm-Bis) copolymerization has been investigated in water at a monomer concentration of 1.8 w/v %. Conversion of monomer and pendant vinyl groups was measured as a function of the reaction time up to the onset of macrogelation. Experimental results indicate that 80% of pendant vinyl groups are consumed by cyclization reactions. When the monomer concen...
متن کاملDemonstration of rhodanese activity in polyacrylamide gels.
Rhodanese activity from crude extracts of Thiobacillus sp. strain IV-85 was demonstrated in polyacrylamide gels after incubation in the reaction mixture by staining with dichloroindophenol in the presence of methylphenazonium methosulfate. The sensitivity of the staining system was found to be 8 x 10 moles of sulfite.
متن کاملElectroosmotically enhanced mass transfer through polyacrylamide gels.
We present an internal pumping strategy to enhance solute fluxes in polymer gels. The method is based on electroosmotic flow driven by an electric field applied across a gel that has been doped with charged colloidal inclusions. This work is motivated by the need to enhance the transport in gel-based biosensor devices whose response dynamics are often mass transfer limited. In this case, polyac...
متن کاملIncorporation of bromophenol blue enhances visibility of polyacrylamide gels.
Vertical polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (PAGE) is routinely used in molecular biology to separate macromolecules. DNA sequencing, singlestranded conformational polymorphism (SSCP) analysis and microsatellite typing all utilize the high resolution capabilities of polyacrylamide gels to separate molecules that differ in size by as little as one base pair. However, preparation of these gels is...
